BURY is at the forefront of a new national programme to give everyone equal access to health and fitness opportunities.
The Castle Leisure Centre will be one of only 30 council run leisure centres across the country taking part in a new £1.3 million Lottery-funded Inclusive Fitness Initiative.
The scheme, run by the English Federation of Disability Sport, is setting out to ensure that real and lasting provision for inclusive sporting opportunities are established for disabled people. The first benefits of involvement with the programme will be £34,000 worth of funding to purchase specialist equipment, set up disability awareness training for nearly 50 staff and set up high profile marketing of the facilities that will be available and the changes taking place. The new equipment is expected to be installed by the end of July.
