THE parish council re-elected CounTony Lambert as chairman, Coun Alan Lawson as vice- chairman and Ken Smith as allotment manager.
The chairman welcomed the leader of Burnley Borough Council, Coun Stuart Caddy, to the meeting.
Coun Caddy assured the meeting that the Borough Council had every intention of continuing its strong links and support for the parish councils.
He outlined the funding difficulties the borough council had experienced over recent years in that Burnley now received less funding from the government than 10 years ago.
Yet the borough's problems were acknowledged to be as serious as many inner-city areas with four areas of the Borough suffering severe deprivation.
He outlined how the new £670million pathfinder programme across East Lancashire.
It was aimed at tackling empty and abandoned homes would help towards demolishing 2000 houses in Burnley. A knock-on effect would be a boost to the local housing market.
COUN Lambert reported that he would meetChief Superintendent John Knowles in three months time to monitor and evaluate the new police service to Worsthorne. The parish councillors were very happy that Worsthorne was once again to receive the regular services of a village bobby.
ABOUT £150,000 had been set aside in a new opportunities fund Coun Caddy told the meeting.
It was intended to be spread evenly across the borough to meet local needs,
He encouraged the parish councillors to put in bids for Worsthorne and Hurstwood.
THE Friends of Worsthorne will hold a meeting tonight in the Crooked Billet at 8pm.
The main item of business will be the planning of the annual village carnival.
PC GLYNN Grey has been given special status as the Cliviger and Worsthorne village bobby. Plans are under way for PC Grey to hold surgeries in the village so that residents can raise issues of concern to them directly with him. PC Grey can be contacted on 423201.
