A FORMER industrial site has been transformed into a living and growing of art in Summerseat.
Artist Janet Hodgson and botanist Dr James Hitchmough have just completed a survey of plants growing on the former Binnex site and have created traditional engraved botanical labels using Latin and common names to identify the plants and trees.
The area now looks controlled, rather than a wilderness, and Janet has added concrete footings which will be used to mount the 250 plant and tree labels.
And to celebrate the completion of the work on Sunday at 10am, as part Bury's environment week there will be a guided walk around the site.
Janet said: "In addition to the labels there are also plans to make a small colour publication which uses photographs I have produced to document the plant life on site.
"One of the writers is to be Dr Tony Bradshaw, a botanist who has an international reputation for working with soils.
"He is an expert on the plant life that occupies ex-industrial sites and how that plant life mutates in order to make best use of its new environment.
"At a later stage we are also intending to hold a talk about the site, the plants and issues that the project has raised."
