BURNLEY FC fans are not the country's dimmest after all. The brighter news for Turf Moor comes in new results from the BBC's Test the Nation quiz.

Initial estimates among those who took part in the IQ test on the internet, which was also broadcast on TV at the weekend, put Burnley fans bottom of the league with the low IQ of 76 compared to an average score of 90 to 100.

But the final figures from the BBC now reveal that Clyde fans have slumped to the bottom with a score of 99 and Burnley supporters have managed to climb the ladder out of the bottom ten gaining an IQ score of 114 -- only seven points behind the leaders York City.

They finished ahead of teams such as Millwall, Rangers, Stoke and Swindon.

Burnley supporter Peter Pike MP said he believed more calculation should have been done before any results were released so that people did not get the wrong impression of people in the town.

He said: "I did say earlier this week that I didn't think it had been done very scientifically.

"We have now moved from 76 to 114 and this shows that my initial judgement at the way it was done was not particularly unfounded.

"I would say I am absolutely certain that the average Burnley Football Club supporter has the same average intelligence as fans anywhere else.

"Obviously with things being so sensitive in Burnley at the moment this kind of thing is damaging when it has been in the national media and people should be more careful before they do this."

A minimum sample size of 10 was chosen to compile the average scores but the majority of those that took part on the web said they did not support a particular club.
