THE new Labour leader of Hyndburn Borough Council today announced his new Cabinet -- exactly two weeks after his party swept back to power at Accrington Town Hall in the local elections.
Councillor Ian Ormerod and 17 of his colleagues ousted the ruling Tories by just one seat in a nailbiting poll. And Councillor Ormerod immediately pledged action on the borough's large number of unfit houses and its litter problems.
Today he said: "We have some excellent people on the Cabinet, embracing a wide spectrum of experience. They comprise a broad range of different age and minority groups."
Councillor Ormerod council leader and his new Cabinet members will cover portfolios including policy and finance. The positions will be confirmed at the annual meeting of the council next Thursday.
The other Cabinet members will be:
Deputy Leader: Councillor Jean Battle, who will have overall responsibility for housing
Regeneration: Councillor Bernard Dawson
Environment and Cleansing - Councillor Tim O'Kane
Performance Management and Innovation: Councillor Mohammed Rahman.
Resources: Councillor Pam Barton
Leisure and Culture: Coun cillor David Myles
The Conservative opposition is due to decide on its Shadow Cabinet tonight.
All the new positions on the council will be rubber-stamped at its first meeting since the local elections were held on May 2.
