BIKERS are getting into gear for the 10th anniversary Rossendale Valley Motorbike Show, which promises to be the biggest and best yet.

Unfortunately Prince William has declined the invitation from the committee to show off his motorbike skills and lead the ride-in on September 22, but the dedicated team of more than 30 show volunteers already has a number of attractions planned for Rawtenstall.

Vice-chairman Simon Hobson said: "It's going to be a fantastic event and we are looking forward to welcoming thousands of people to Rawtenstall. Last year more than 40,000 came along.

"This year we are having a main arena on Daisy Hill car park, a much better location for the stage. There will be live bands, a Sunday service and much more.

"We raised a record £10,000 for charity last year and are hoping that this being the 10th anniversary we can top that total.

"Again we will asking for a £5 donation to park bikes in the town centre to ensure we raise lots of money for good causes."

Europe's largest town centre motorbike show will have many attractions, including the ever-popular mini-moto on Asda car park, a stunt show on Bocholt Way, the Wall of Fear near the market and a trials arena at Newhallhey.

A bungee catapult, fun fair, many trade and refreshment stands and a tattoo convention in the Astoria Ballroom will mean there is something for everyone, young and not so young!

This year in the bike competitions there is a class for modern show bikes. The British Motorcycle Federation will offer rider training and it is hoped to have 'pay to ride' Enduro dirt bikes.

The Castrol Honda racing team will visit and it is hoped more than 1,500 bikers will take part in various rides-in to launch the show.

Camping has been arranged at the Fisherman's Retreat in Shuttleworth and The Glory in Loveclough.
