WIGAN Mayor Cllr John Hilton's charity campaign was the 'icing on the cake' for his year in office that ended with two state-of-the-art pieces of medical equipment being presented to Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust.
A scanner used in detecting bladder, kidney and prostate cancers and a Holmium Laser for treating certain tumours without the need of surgery, have been bought after the appeal went soaring past its target.
Originally the campaign was for the scanner only but the appeal has exceeded expectations.
Cllr John Hilton said: "I began the appeal knowing the people of Wigan, Leigh and the surrounding towns were renowned for their generosity in supporting good causes and they haven't let me down."
