TWELVE-year-old Arnold School pupil Hayden Armstrong is the winner of the National Railway Museum's competition to promote rail safety awareness.
Judges of the 100 entries in the 8-11 age group were impressed by the hard-hitting message conveyed by Hayden's poster-design entitled Don't Dice with Death! "Hayden has given this project a great deal of thought and has also shown motivation, a quality we encourage in all our pupils," said Bill Gillen, Arnold School principal.
"His design clearly shows he understands it is dangerous to play on or near railway lines."
Hayden's poster is on display at the National Railway Museum and he will receive artist's materials to the value of £50.
"It is important that we educate children about the dangers of trespass and vandalism on the railways, not only to themselves, but to passengers and railway staff," said Robin Gisby, director, Railtrack London, North Eastern and East Anglia.
The National Railway Museum in York is open daily and entry is free to pre-booked school groups. For further information telephone the NRM Education Department on (01904) 686230.
