A FIRST-floor flat was destroyed by fire.
Squatters are being blamed for the blaze above a shop in Walmersley Road, Bury, during the early hours of Friday (May 10).
The alarm was raised at 4.30am and firefighters from Bury quickly brought the flames under control. They left the scene at 7am.
According to initial investigations, separate fires were started in the bathroom and bedroom of the unoccupied flat which was being used by squatters.
The bathroom was destroyed while the bedroom suffered 50 per cent damage.
Police are investigating.
