AN annual photographic competition has been launched in memory of former Lancashire Evening Telegraph photographer Jack Barry.
One of East Lancashire's most popular personalities, Jack died 15 months ago, aged 59, following a heart attack.
His death prompted the local community to stage a commemorative evening, on behalf of the Evening Telegraph, Blackburn with Darwen's Festivals and Mela Committee and the local ethnic minority communities.
The respect and fondness in which Jack was held was evident as many community leaders, representatives and senior councillors across Lancashire paid tribute to his life.
A trophy, presented to his wife, Ann, will now be used for an annual photographic competition, depicting "Life of the Community of Lancashire."
Photographs will be judged on their impact, detail and creativity and no professionals can enter.
The judging panel will be Kevin Young, editor of the Evening Telegraph; deputy picture editor John Napier; Coun Kate Hollern, deputy leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council and executive member for leisure and cultural services, Naushad Surve, chair of the festivals and Mela committee and professional photographer John Hillier.
The winner will also receive a cash prize of £100 and the top photograph will appear in publicity material for this year's Blackburn Mela, to be held on July 13 and 14 at Corporation Park.
Closing date for all entries is Friday, May 31, and the winner will be announced on June 10.
All entries should be sent to: John Napier, Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Telegraph House, Blackburn, Lancashire BB1 1HT.
