AS a barber, Mark Thompson has to keep up with all the latest styles - but he also likes to keep one foot in the past.
His salon in Haslingden is like something from the 1930s.
And the furnishings at Thompson's Barbers, Lower Deardengate, will even look familiar to viewers of Born and Bred - the BBC1 Sunday-night period drama filmed in Rossendale and the Ribble Valley.
Mark said: "The shop used to be in Helmshore and was started by my father Albert in 1983, with me taking over in 1996.
"When I got this shop I decided to recreate an art deco interior with 1930s-style furniture and decoration.
"I have scoured car boot sales, got up early to go to antique fairs and kept an eye out for bargains to furnish my shop."
Mark, 42, said he bought three original barber's chairs, which he completely stripped and spent months re-chroming and respraying.
He has also bought modern lighting in a period style - similar lamps can be seen in the doctor's surgery in Born and Bred.
He has also got an original Bakelite telephone, a 1930s reception desk, a selection of razors from the 1930s including cut-throat razors and a 1930s standard lamp. The adverts on the walls are also from the art deco period.
However, Mark has not yet started charging customers in pounds, shillings and pence!
