IT is a pity that the dilapidated Pavilion Buildings in your picture (LET, May 7) of the recently-pedestrianised Church Street in Blackburn make the area look like a war zone.
It is also not surprising that the estimated cost of converting the Pavilions into an upmarket restaurant has doubled, since the inside of one of the Pavilions looked dilapidated in the 1940s.
To me, the Pavilions have always seemed out of place with their surroundings and of little significance, but I can see the case for their retention as architectural examples.
However, perhaps it would satisfy all concerned if the larger Pavilion was retained and the other two demolished to create an even more open area, and view of the Cathedral.
