REGARDING your Comment (LET, May 3), I would expect such barbs from the Socialist Worker, Daily Express, Morning Star or the Daily Mirror, but not from a quality publication like the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
The British National Party (I'm not a member) did well in the recent elections considering they were up against an unholy alliance of the British media, the three main political parties, many Christian leaders and that communist front organisation, the Anti-Nazi League.
Like it or not, we should all take note that the BNP are rightly using the democratic process.
I get the impression that many of those who protest so vigorously about the BNP vote are just interested in protecting their meal-ticket more than anything else.
I also get the impression that most of the British establishment don't understand what democracy is all about -- BBC television being the biggest culprit.
Is it any wonder that so many people feel so detached from the political process that they did not bother to vote in recent elections. Lots of people are frightened for the future. The disenchantment is there for all to see.
It's now time for some honest debate on asylum, immigration and capital punishment (which I'm against) among other things.
