THE trustees and residents of the Colonel Slater Alms Houses in Briercliffe Road, Burnley, are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the opening of the homes this week.
The homes were built in 1927 under the terms of the will of Colonel Hubert Slater who directed his estate should be used to build alms houses for the poor of Burnley. They were opened in 1927 by Colonel Jobling, on of the home's trustees.
In 1985 the homes were redesigned to form ten flats and a warden's house. They were officially unveiled by Flora Jobling, Colonel Jobling's daughter in law.
To mark the anniversary the trustees and residents are travelling to the Gibbon Bridge Hotel in Chipping on Tuesday, May 21.
