THE Looking Back article "Forgotten tomb of the 'unknown' squire" (LET, May 13) stated that the memorial in Blackburn to Randle Francis Feilden, which stood opposite the Preston Old Road entrance to Witton Park and incorporated a drinking fountain, was moved to Pleasington Playing Fields in 1930.
I do not think it was that drinking fountain which was moved to the playing fields. I believe it was the one that stood at Salford for many years.
E HINNIGAN (Mrs), Hazel Close, Blackburn.
Footnote: The stone drinking fountain erected at Salford Bridge in 1882 was moved in 1923 to Pleasington Playing Fields where it still can be seen. But our archives state that the Feilden memorial was also moved there in 1930, but it appears to have been removed since -- Eric Leaver, Looking Back writer.
