REPUBLIC of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy said he had been left with no choice but to send Roy Keane home after a furious slanging match with his captain.
McCarthy said he had sought a clear-the-air meeting with Keane following the Irish skipper's forthright criticisms of Ireland's preparations for the World Cup in a newspaper interview.
But when the face-to-face confrontation at Ireland's Saipan training camp in the Pacific degenerated into a heated row, McCarthy told Keane to pack his bags.
