THE traditional Procession of Witness in Padiham will take place on Sunday.
Padiham church leaders and their congregations will meet at St Anne's and St Elizabeth's Church, Padiham Green, by 10.15am and the procession will then walk into Padiham, ending at St Leonard's Church. Father Hilton of St Augustine's will say 11am mass at St John's RC Church.
THE Mayor and Mayoress of Padiham, Councillors Granville and Pat Lord attended their first meeting of the Lancashire Association of Town and Parish Councils held in Worsthorne.
Chairman of the association, Councillor Tony Lambert, welcomed them to the meeting and all the councillors present congratulated them on their appointments as first members of the new Padiham Town Council.
THE park services unit of Burnley Council and Padiham Memorial Park, are present Besses o'th Barn Brass Band, supported by Burnley's Junior Alliance Band in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The event will take place on Monday, June 3 ,from 1pm to 5pm. Admission is free.
AT the last meeting of the Hapton Parish Council Joan Lakeland was re-elected as chairman. The position of vice-chairman will be filled at the next meeting on June 11 at 7.30pm.
A RESIDENT of Valley Gardens attended the meeting to express his concern about the proposed animal waste incinerator which it is proposed to build at the Hapton Valley colliery site.
The parish council has already vigorously opposed this proposal.
The planning department of Burnley Council will report on the application to the development control committee tonight at 6.30pm.
Members of the public are allowed to attend the meeting.
THE Men's Group of St Margaret's, Hapton, are holding a bowling evening on Friday May 24. This will be followed by a pie and peas supper. Non-members are welcome.
HAPTON'S environmental group are working to make the village look attractive. They are responsible for the 'greening' of the village, floral displays, murals and hiring skips to rid the village of junk and litter.
The group would welcome extra help from villagers. Jo can be contacted on 776874.
HAPTON'S CE/Methodist School are planning a jubilee week, starting on Monday with a royal theme including readings, drama, stories, paintings and collage. The readings will be by teachers, parents, friends and governors. On Thursday, May 30, the school will hold a fun day with best crown competition, a bouncy castle and fancy dress.
