BILLED as having all the "zesty innuendo of an English seaside postcard", Terry Johnson's play Dead Funny is at Bolton's Octagon Theatre.
Richard, a consultant obstetrician who, when not performing hysterectomies or irritating Eleanor, is also chairman of the Dead Funny Society, Islington Branch.
When both Benny Hill and Frankie Howerd die within a few days of each other, Richard's fellow mourners gather in shock, comprising a sterile teacher, his psychic wife and a gay friend whose speciality is impersonating Fred Scuttle.
Theirs is a custard-pie tragi-comedy of people for whom a one liner is more important than a one-to-one.
Dead Funny runs until Saturday, June 8. Tickets start at £5.50, contact the box office on 01204 520661 or e-mail info@octagonbolton.co.uk
