Dewsbury U19s 24, Centurions U19s 30
LEIGH Centurions Academy U19's made it three wins out of three with a 30-24 success at Dewsbury.
Leigh hit the ground running and charged into an early 12-0 lead. Anthony Blackwood scored the opening try after the defence was split by Martin Meadows.
Just four minutes later, the second try followed when a great pass opened the field up for Eric Andrews. He sped away over 60 metres for a try beneath the posts.
Leigh Sanderson tagged on a couple of goals before Dewsbury twice replied with converted tries from grubber kicks.
The Centurions took an 18-12 lead in the 26th minute with a try to Pete Fairhurst, a well-worked effort coming from close range. Sanderson again added the goal but back came the Rams to level at 18-18 at half time.
As in the first half, the opening exchanges belonged to the Centurions with Fairhurst, Danny Mole and captain Ian Hodson all making inroads. Sanderson added a typical try after six minutes.
Dewsbury were far from finished and after Andrews was penalised for an incorrect play-the-ball, Hill converted to put his side within four points of the Centurions.
Sanderson settled the nerves of his side with a penalty and was then on hand to support a half break from Meadows and provide the pass for Clark to score and open a 30-20 lead.
Dewsbury continued to battle and ask questions of the Leigh defence. Eventually their mounting pressure told on the scoreboard.
The U19s next match is on Saturday when they entertain Barrow at Hilton Park, kick off 2.30pm.
