Couple's Diamond day
"NOMADS" Cyril and Alice Goulbourne celebrate their Diamond Wedding anniversary today (Thursday) with royal best wishes.
The 82-years-old couple, who have lived in seven homes in Atherton, Hindsford and Tyldesley are having a quiet day after receiving a telegram from the Queen at their bungalow in Sale Lane, Tyldesley.
The Goulbourne's met through the Salvation Army and were married at the Atherton Citadel by Mr Goulbourne's step brother, SA Captain Harold Finney.
They moved into their first home in Bag Lane, Atherton, and since then have lived in Astley Street, Alfred Street, Shakerley Road and Manchester Road in Tyldesley, and at Powys Street, Hindsford.
They have three sons, Dennis, Stewart and Ian, and a daughter, Shirley, seven grand children and two great grandchildren. Keen caravanners they have recently returned from a stay in Northallerton, Yorkshire.
Former Nook Colliery worker Mr Goulbourne and his wife, who worked at Prestwich Parker nut and bolt works at Atherton say the secret of their glittering success is: "having lots in common and give and take."
