STREET parties for this year's Golden Jubilee in Bury look set to be few and far between.
Highways chiefs have received only eight formal applications for road closures over the Jubilee bank holiday at the beginning of June, with the official deadline having expired at the end of April.
Only four requests have been formalised, and Bury Council says it will be unable to process new applications in time to advertise the necessary closures.
Seven requests have been received in neighbouring Rochdale, but in Bolton, where grants have been awarded for more than 70 parties, 32 road closures are planned.
Bury Council traffic services manager Ian Lord said: "We have aimed to help these things along as best we can, but the timetable is now too tight for further requests.
"People may well be planning to have their parties in gardens or private land instead of on the street."
