A WEEK of green events in Bury comes to a climax tomorrow (Sat May 25) with the North West's biggest environmental day.

Nearly 100 groups ranging from Friends of the Earth to Friends of Chesham Woods will be setting out their stall for Bury Environment Fair at Castle Leisure Centre.

Conjuring up a little green magic for the event will be magician Steve Ryan, who is staging shows throughout the day.

Free energy efficient light bulbs are on offer to those who can prove they are receiving benefits and there will be a chance to try out organic food.

Pupils from Prestwich High School will strut their stuff with a recycled fashion show and visitors can try salsa dancing and model making.

The advantaged of recycling glass will be made clear with a glass roadshow including computers, display panels and children's characters Billy Bottle and Jenny Jar.

Councillor Stella Smith, executive member for environment and transport, said: "There is so much going on under one roof, that it really is too good to miss.

"While the occasion is about highlighting the seriousness of environmental issues, there is no doubt that there will be plenty of fun to be had in the process."

The event rounds off a week of events which have included guided walks, environmental story times, seminars and school waste workshops.

It runs from 10am to 4pm.
