COUNCILLORS have given the green light for improvements to football pitches this summer at a meeting of the Executive.
Prairie Playing Fields is one of the largest facilities which could accommodate grassroots football in the area.
The site is owned and managed by Burnley Borough Council, but has suffered from drainage problems over many years.
The project was awarded a grant of £150,000 by the Football Foundation earlier in the year after a bid was submitted by a partnership between Burnley Council and the clubs and leagues.
Drainage works will be carried out at Prairie by a sports drain contractor. Work will be drawn out over two summers to minimise disruption next season.
