PLANS to upgrade fitness equipment at leisure centres in Burnley and Padiham have been put on hold.
Burnley Borough Council's executive was asked to approve a £60,000 upgrade at the Thompson Centre, Burnley; Gannow Pool and Fitness Centre and Padiham Leisure Centre.
But it deferred a decision until after completion of the borough's Best Value review into leisure in July.
Director of community and leisure services Mick Cartledge said: "The review includes places such as the Mechanics, the Thompson Centre and Padiham and Gannow.
"As part of that there will be a long term improvement plan for all areas. Members will look to consider improving the fitness element after that wider review.
"It would still cost £60,000 but we could look at other options of how to get the funding and improving other aspects of other facilities."
Fitness facilities at Burnley's Thompson Centre were updated at a cost of £50,000 two years ago and it is hoped Padiham and Gannow can now be brought up to a similar standard, with the replacement of the cardio vascular equipment listed as a matter of urgency.
