AN elderly woman was conned by two men posing as window fitters.
The men called at the 87-year-old's home in Atkinson Street, Briercliffe, Burnley, at 10am on Wednesday and told her they had come to do some work on her front window.
She allowed them in and they went into the kitchen where they told her they wanted £45 for work they were going to do.
They gave her a receipt and she gave one of them the money. The other man took the woman's purse which contained £6 in cash. The men then left without doing any work.
Police have issued descriptions. The first man is in his 20s, around 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build, with short, blond hair and clean shaven.
The second man is aged about 60, 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build, wearing a dark, old cap.
The men were seen driving away in a white van with flowers on the side.
Detective Sergeant Steve Mounsey said: "We have put the message out a number of times through various channels but the elderly are still allowing people into their homes without checking out who they are.
"Family members should encourage their elderly relatives to be more vigilant and to keep chains on their doors.
"If anybody has any concerns about suspected bogus callers then they should call us straight away."
Anybody with any information relating to bogus callers can contact Burnley CID on 01282 472144.
