TOP class tarmac rallying comes to Leyland this weekend.
Organiser Tim Foster has assembled a capacity entry of 60 cars for the Proflex Stages, which takes place at the Leyland Test Track.
The all-asphalt venue, which features a high-speed banked section, watersplash and gradient roads, is hugely popular with drivers, and attracts competitors from all over the country.
The top ten is filled with four-wheel-drive, turbocharged rally 'supercars' with no less than eight Metro 6R4's in the line-up.
"It's going to be a cracking rally. Any one of the top ten drivers are potential winners, so we should see a great day's sport," said Tim.
"Such is the reputation of the Proflex, we have now been included in four major regional rally championships, including Britain's newest one-make series, the Astra Challenge.
"I'm pleased that we have attracted not only some of the best club men in the country, but also a good proportion of local drivers."
Last year's winner Tony Jannetta will lead the field away at 10am on Saturday morning, driving his 6R4, followed by North Humberside winner Warren Philliskirk and Peter Stojanov, who won the North West Stages in February.
Noise testing, scrutineering and documentation takes place on Friday night at the Preston Novotel rally headquarters, with the first car starting at 10am on Saturday.
For security reasons, no spectators are allowed inside Leyland Test Track, so anyone wanting to see the action close up should pre-register as a marshal with Simon Daly on 01200 424390.
