BARNOLDSWICK people are being challenged to create the 'best bug' for the town's Barlick Bugs jubilee festival next month.
Residents, businesses and organisations are being asked to use their creative skills to be in with a chance of winning trophies, including the 'Bizzy Bugs Cup' for the best business entry, the 'Beetle Beaker' for organisations and the 'House Mites Cup' for individual householders.
A 'Caterpillar Cup' will also be awarded for the best school sculpture.
Organisers of the free event, on June 22 and 23, are planning a bigger festival this year following the success of last year's inaugural event.
Spokesman Councillor David Whipp said: "Last year the whole town was buzzing with excitement after scores of sculptures appeared. This year we want people to be busy bees creating their own artwork for everyone to admire. The more inventive and adventurous ideas we see the better.
"The festival organisers will be promoting a sculpture trail as part of the weekend's activities. Townsfolk and visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite creation. Whoever comes up with the best display in each category will win a cup to celebrate their success."
Music, dance and theatre events will be held on a giant stage in the Town Square, with free workshops taking place at various venues throughout Barnoldswick.
Coun Whipp said: "The festival is a celebration of local creativity, performance and fun. We're expecting thousands of visitors to the Bugs after last year's success. It's going to be fantastic."
Anyone hoping to create their own insect invader should let the organisers know by June 10 so their site can be included on the official trail programme.
The group can be contacted on 01282 666777, 666735 or 661683, or by writing to Barnoldswick Community Arts, Town Council Office, Fernlea Avenue, Barnoldswick BB18 5DW.
