COMPANY bosses have sprung to the rescue after Scouts watched their camp being washed away.
The Bowley Scout camp, in Great Harwood, has been hit by flooding after water started cascading on to the site during heavy downpours.
Part-time warden Darryl Baker said the hardcore road through the camp was gradually being washed away. "There are drains at the side of the road, but the water just flows down the middle and gathers at the bottom," he added.
"There have been times when we've had mud in the office."
Now, bosses at Castle Cement in Clitheroe have stepped into the breach -- by donating cement which will be used to build bumps in the road to divert the deluge.
Darryl said: "We took advice and were told that we needed sand and cement 'speed bumps' to slow the water down and a large bump in the centre of the road so it runs off into the drains."
Luckily, one of the Scout leaders, Robert Urquhart, works as a lorry driver at Castle Cement's Ribblesdale works and he asked bosses there if they could help.
"They have decided to donate the cement and we are over the moon," said Darryl. "Having the new road means people will have better access, especially for coaches and the disabled.
"We can have as many as 600 vehicles here in one day and it was so bad we had to introduce a one-way system to cope."
The gift from Castle Cement has come at a vital time for the 48-acre Scout camp, which saw its revenues plummet last year when it was forced to close because a neighbouring farm had foot-and-mouth.
A spokesperson for Castle Cement said: "We are delighted to help.
"Some of our employees have children in the Scouts and we are happy to make the donation."
