A NEW Blackpool bus service will be launched on July 1 to provide an essential link from Mereside and Grange Park to major employment sites and schools along the eastern edge of the town.

Operating from Monday to Saturday, the Lifestyle Line will run between Amy Johnson Way and Mereside, along East Park Drive to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, then on to Grange Park, Blackpool and Fylde College and Norcross.

The six vehicles, painted in distinctive cream and maroon livery, will have the low floor design to help older people, disabled residents and those travelling with young children.

The need for the service was identified by consultations in the Local Transport Plan and is being paid for by government funding, thanks to a bid put in by Blackpool Borough Council. The cash forms part of the urban Bus Challenge Fund.

"Further plans to extend the service are under discussion in the Round Two phase of the Bus Challenge Fund," said John Shaw, head of Technical Services.
