A teenager was indecently assaulted as she travelled from Lancaster to Morecambe on the bus.

The 17-year-old girl was sat on the upper floor of the Stagecoach bus at 8.40pm on Sunday night when a man approached her and sat next to her.

They began to talk, but the man then touched the woman in an indecent way and she immediately forced her way past him and left the bus.

The attack took place on a 2A bus heading for Heysham Towers, which was in the Torrisholme area, when the assault took place.

She left the bus at West End Road, Morecambe.

They were the only two people on the bus at the time.

It is the second time in less than a month that an indecent assault has been carried out on a local bus, but police are not linking the previous incident, which involved a 14-year-old girl, with the latest attack.

The offender is described as white, 5ft 7ins tall with short, blond or mousy hair and a goatee beard and is said to be of medium build and had a head, which appeared to be out of proportion with his body.

He wore a grey sweatshirt and navy blue tracksuit bottoms with a single line down each leg, black socks and white Adidas trainers.

Det Sgt Mark Salisbury of Lancaster police said: "We would appeal for anyone who can supply police with the name of any person matching that description to come forward.

"Lone females using public bus services should be aware of the problems they can encounter.

"If they feel vulnerable or threatened, they should move to another position, close to the driver or other passengers.

"This was a particularly nasty attack, and incidents such as this can be avoided by following this simple advice."

Police have also released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in relation to their enquiry.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Lancaster police on 01524 63333.
