NORTH End have heaped praise on the fans after more than 1,000 season tickets were sold in just one day.

The club say fans queued up through the night to be the first to get the tickets for the new season.

North End is one of just two clubs in the First Division to lower season ticket prices.

Other incentives include a guarantee that the season tickets will work out cheaper than buying tickets for each game and reserved seating in the Alan Kelly Town End.

Acting chairman Derek Shaw said: "It is a great response. We are most pleasantly surprised at the sales and to sell so many so soon is fantastic.

"We have reduced prices in most parts of the ground and the majority of fans realise what a good deal they are getting."

The decision to axe prices comes in spite of the ITV Digital fiasco affecting the finances of Nationwide clubs.

The hope is that North End will get more season ticket holders, making for a larger guaranteed income from ticket sales.

Mr Shaw added: "Only ourselves and Watford have decided to do that in this division.

"And it shows that our great supporters are getting a great deal and are looking forward to next season."
