TWO tonnes of compressed waste paper was set alight at the Kennedy Asphalt plant in Astley.
Staff at the Chaddock Lane factory had been using cutting equipment when a piece of hot metal fell on to the paper sparking the fire.
Staff started to fight the fire before firefighters arrived on Saturday morning.
Damage was caused to the internal partitioning of the building. No one was injured.
