Swinton Lions 6, Leigh Centurions 40: THE Centurions are anxiously waiting for medical reports on star full-back Neil Turley who was rushed to hospital after suffering a suspected fractured knee-cap.
Turley was hurt after sliding into a perimeter advertising board as he flung himself for a loose ball thought would have brought him his 20th try of the season.
Coach Paul Terzis said: "It's typical of Neil that he should try to reach that ball. He just loves scoring tries and doesn't accept lost causes.
"The wet pitch obviously contributed to the accident. His knee is in a bit of a mess. It's badly cut and grazed and the medics think he may have fractured the knee-cap."
Turley's injury apart Leigh will be well satisfied with their afternoon's work given the appalling conditions.
There's no doubt Leigh handled the conditions better than the Lions, especially in defence where they kept their tryline intact until the 69th minute when Rob Barraclough slithered in for a consolation try.
Swinton in fact had the first points on the board with an early Mick Nanyn penalty but it was not long before Leigh were into their stride with Willie Swann touching down twice in a matter of a few minutes.
A third try for Jon Roper in the 22nd minute put Leigh well in control and on their way back to second place in the NFP table.
Dave Bradbury came up with a try early in the second half that finally slammed the door shut in Swinton's face.
Second rower Gareth Price scored the first of his two in the 53rd minute as Leigh started to put daylight between the sides.
Turley's injury halted the game for several minutes but Leigh were soon back into their stride and good approach work from Roper and Svabic brought Price his second try.
Leigh's seventh and final try came in stoppage time when man of the match Andy Isherwood swept over.
