A TODDLER almost lost part of her finger after it became trapped in a large reclining chair.
The girl, aged one, had crawled under the leather seat while her mum was watching television at their home in Walshaw Road, Bury.
When her mum stood up to see what the child was doing, her finger became jammed in the chair's mechanism.
Firefighters tried for an hour to free the little girl but she was in too much pain.
Eventually, she was taken to the hospital with part of the chair still attached to her hand.
The fire crew were only able to cut her free after she had been given some pain relief.
Bury Sub officer Bill Gibbons said: "The little girl was very distressed and although her mum was obviously upset, she stayed very calm which helped the child. Her mum did a great job.
"The tip of her finger was trapped in the mechanism and we were worried that if we turned her the wrong way, it would have chopped her finger off."
The girl's finger was badly bruised and broken.
