ROVERS keeper Brad Friedel is relishing the World Cup. The American star has had a season to remember, winning the Worthington Cup and helping Rovers to a respectable 10th place in the Premiership.

He turned in some wonderful performances and Friedel left two weeks before the end of the season to team up with the rest of the squad.

Before he left, Friedel said: "Now Rovers are safe from relegation I can concentrate on the World Cup and it's exciting.

"It hasn't really sunk in yet because I'm coming off the back of a long season here.

"But once we get into it it will start to hit home."

But he is hoping that America's attention will be on the events in South Korea and Japan.

"The buzz will be nothing like it is here.

"We are small fish in a big pond over there. There are a lot of people who will follow the sport and while we're in the tournament there'll be a bit of a buzz and we'll be on the news and all that.

"But then when the World Cup's over we'll be dead again but that's just how it is and that's why I like living over here.
