ST JOHN'S Mothers Union meets on the second Tuesday in the month in Church House.
At the May meeting Mr P Short, the Ranger from Wycoller Country Park spoke about his job and about the park in general. The next meeting, on June 11, will be addressed by the Rev Brian Stevenson, a former vicar.
AT the recent meeting of Cliviger Parish Council, councillors were told by the Lancashire County Council representative that the storage yard on Burnley Road will be cleaned up.
This area, which is used mainly to store salt and grit for the roads, has been in a very untidy state for some time. It was also pointed out that there is an electricity box on the site is in a dangerous condition.
A REQUEST has been made for markings in Green Lane, where it passes between the two buildings of Cliviger Holme School, to warn motorists of children crossing the lane. Pupils have to cross from the old school building to the playground and new building on several occasions each day.
The county engineer will be asked to look at the problem and suggest an appropriate way of slowing down vehicles using the lane.
THE 'temporary' bus shelter at The Ram Inn is covered with graffiti and is an eyesore. Inquiries will be made to Burnley Borough Council to have it removed.
TOM and Elizabeth Boyle of the Gordon Lennox will be leaving the pub towards the end of July, after six years. They are leaving the trade but will still be living in Cliviger as they have been renovating a cottage for several months. Tom and Elizabeth would like to thank their customers for their support over the last six years. A warm welcome awaits the new tenants, Ian and Brenda.
INQUIRIES are to be made with the footpaths officer of Lancashire County Council to obtain an up-to-date map of the rights of way within the parish. There are many public footpaths within the area and a definitive map would be of great use to the parish council and to residents.
THE parish council has allotment gardens at Fivelands, off Mount Lane, which are rented out. One is vacant at present. Information about renting it be had from the clerk to the council on 01282 436669.
