HEALTH bosses in Burnley were given an all-clear when they were visited by the Community Health Council to look at waiting times.

Members of Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale CHC visited the accident and emergency department at Burnley General Hospital last Monday afternoon.

The visit was part of Casualty Watch, a snapshot of waiting times in A&E departments across the country.

In total 167 Trusts were visited by their local CHC.

The longest waiting time was found to be at the Aintree NHS Trust where a 90-year-old woman was forced to wait more than 90 hours.

Burnley compared favourably to that with a longest wait time of just four hours and 41 minutes.

Chairman of the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale CHC, Don Pacey, said the volunteers who carried out the checks over a two-week period had visited the hospital on different days and at different times to get a broad picture of life in the casualty department.

He added: "We did very well compared to some other parts of the country and that has been the case with Burnley for the last few years.

"We shall certainly be meeting with the trust in the near future to discuss our findings."
