THE officer at the centre of a council investigation should learn his fate in the next few days.
Hyndburn Borough Council manager Mike Chambers said he hoped to receive the report into the inquiry into finance director Alan Rainford soon.
Mr Rainford was suspended on full pay earlier this month from the post, which he has held for three years, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The 44-year-old, who lives in Cheshire, said "misuse of computer facilities" had been mentioned to him but no specific allegations had been put to him.
The investigation will reveal whether there is a case to answer -- if there is, Mr Rainford could face instant dismissal.
Mr Chambers said "I'm hoping to get the report in the next few days, which will move things forward.
"Then we will consider the contents and decide what to do next."
