CID officers did not have to do much investigating when Simon Francis Peter Broughton drove on to the garage forecourt where they were filling their police car.
He jerked to a halt and when the officers spoke to him he had clearly been drinking.
Broughton, 23, of Manor Road, Darwen, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.
He was ordered to do 120 hours community service, disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay £45 costs.
Broughton, who gave a reading of 122 against the legal limit of 35, agreed to be referred to the drink drive rehabilitation programme which, if completed successfully, would reduce his ban by 25 per cent.
