A SCHEME to ensure people feel safer in their homes has been launched by police in Nelson.
Community beat manager PC Julie Fort has put together a package which she has been giving out to residents in the Bradley Ward area.
The project, named Operation Feelsafe, is aimed at 146 houses owned by elderly and vulnerable people.
PC Fort said: "The crime rate has been quite high over the previous 12 months therefore I have devised this scheme. It will include working alongside Blakey's locksmiths in Brierfield, who will carry out a free survey of all the properties and carry out any work that needs to be done at a subsidised rate.
"Neighbourhood wardens have been a great help in distributing packages and talking with residents."
