AN ex-convict responsible for a string of offences and who struck while on licence, is back behind bars.

Joseph Conroy, 23, was jailed for nine months by Recorder Anthony Rumbelow, QC, who also ordered he serve the 316 day unexpired portion of his previous sentence on top.

Conroy, of Hickson Street, Blackburn, who had raided a portable cabin and on another occasion been found "comatose" in a car, had admitted burglary, failing to surrender to bail, vehicle interference, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, police obstruction and motoring offences.

He had been committed for sentence by Blackburn Magistrates.

Kendal Lindley, prosecuting, told Burnley Crown Court the defendant broke into a portable cabin and the day after was seen wearing a jacket police believed had been stolen from the building.

Conroy, who got involved in a fight with police on a separate occasion, was another time found unconscious in the driving seat of a car in Blackburn.

He was taken to the police station, the police surgeon was called and Conroy was asked to provide a sample of blood. He refused.

Anthony Cross, defending, said Conroy had been in custody for 12 weeks. He could be said to be a persistent offender, but none of the offences themselves would have been so grave on their own.

When looked at together, the offences merited a short term of custody. Hopefully, the defendant would have learned his lesson and would not go back to crime on his release.
