JUDO ace Danny Carr is all set to make further progress in his chosen sport -- thanks to a local organisation.
Ramsbottom Rotary Club president Peter Law gave Daniel a cheque for £250. The money will be put towards travelling and training expenses.
Danny, just 16, is ranked No 2 in Great Britain in his age group, which is 16-17-year-olds. He has been a member of the national cadet squad, the country's elite, for the past four years.
Dan was also North West junior player of the year for 2000-1, and captained the North West junior squad in the same year. In March, he added the Dutch U-18 Open Championship trophy to his cabinet.
Daniel trains in Bacup and is doing GCSEs at Heywood Community School. He is looking forward to being a volunteer at the Commonwealth Games, where he will be helping with his sport as a member of Crew 2002.
Ramsbottom Rotary Club is also looking forward to a visit from Daniel when he is due to tell members about his sporting career.
SportsAid identifies junior sportspeople of exceptional talent and seeks to fund them.
The Rotary partnership with SportsAid started this year and links a Rotary Club which wishes to participate in the partnership, with a local junior sporting star.
As well as a financial contribution, the Rotary Club demonstrates interest in their sponsored person's current and future career.
