THE site of a massive pub explosion is to come under the hammer at an auction.
The 658 sq yard parcel of land at Manchester Road, Blackford Bridge, Bury, had been occupied by the Bridge Inn before it was wrecked in a gas blast in March, 1998.
Miraculously, the landlord and his family walked free from the devastating building, sustaining only minor injuries. Later, the shell of the building was demolished.
Now the site, earmarked for a housing development, is to be sold at an auction to be held by Pugh and Co on Wednesday, June 12 at Manchester Airport.
The site, which is one of 84 lots, could fetch between £35,000 and £45,000.
In their auction catalogue, Pugh and Co state the parcel of land is held leasehold for 999 years from 189 at an annual rental of £30.
The land is offered with the benefit of detailed planning consent for six flats within a three-storey block.
