A GRANDMOTHER has been left heartbroken after vandals destroyed the garden she has worked on for the last 12 months.
Yobs rampaged through Mrs Denise Gould's garden in Symrna Street, Radcliffe, on Monday afternoon (May 27) destroying the pond, which formed the centrepiece of the front of the house, and stealing garden ornaments. The vandals caused around £400 worth of damage.
The mother of four, who has six grandchildren, said: "I just cried all day and night when I discovered what had happened. I am just heartbroken. They stole the pond's pump and filter and the goblins and fairies I had in the garden. I just couldn't believe someone could do something like this."
Mrs Gould, who is registered disabled, worked on the front garden herself and was going to finish it this weekend by laying a seating area.
"Now I think why should I carry on. I laid every pebble myself and people used to admire it when walking past. It used to give people joy. My grand-daughter Charlene can't believe someone would do this. Now I have to lock the garden gates with a chain and bolt so they don't come back. It is not fair that I have to do this."
Mrs Gould added: "I'll have to see if I have the money to do the work again."
