A POULTON grandmother is to re-live the glorious day she was crowned gala queen during the Queen's Coronation year -- as her granddaughter prepares to be crowned the town's festival queen nearly 50 years on.

Eleven-year-old Georgia Hindle, who is a pupil at St Chad's C of E, is looking forward to her crowning ceremony on Saturday watched by hundreds of onlookers and one very proud grandma.

Sixty-three-year-old grandma Patricia Naylor recalled to The Citizen how she felt on her big day: "I was very excited about being made queen and it was the highlight of the church year," she said. "The day was hot and sunny and I have very fond memories of it.

"I know exactly how Georgia must be feeling and my advice to her would be to simply enjoy the day. I am very proud of her and I am sure when I see her it will take me back to my big day."

Georgia's mum Sue Hindle said: "She is quite used to getting up in front of people and giving speeches as she is a member of the Chaddeans drama group, and I am sure she will do very well.

"She feels very honoured to be following in her grandma's footsteps."

When asked about Georgia's dress, she replied: "I don't want to give anything away but Georgia didn't want a big fairy-type dress and has opted for something much more modern and elegant."

The gala parade complete with its entourage of colourful bands and floats will tour the town centre starting from Moorfield Road at noon and ending with the coronation at Cottam Field .

There will also be a fun fair at Cottam Field to ensure the carnival atmosphere continues throughout the day.

Georgia will be supported on the day by her prince charming, 11-year-old Christina Naylor, of St Hilda's Church in Carleton, and seven attendants from her school who will include her younger sister, Serena.
