A DIRECTOR of a home improvements business which crashed with debts of almost £77,000 has been disqualified from holding directorships or managing a company for six years.

Sydney Pearson, of Warner Street, Haslingden, was a director of T & C Home Improvements Ltd which installed windows and doors from a premises at Bury Business Centre, Kay Street, Rawtenstall.

His business went into liquidation on April 19, 2000, owing creditors £76,752.

Mr Pearson was found to be unfit to be a company director because he failed to pay the Inland Revenue at least £24,092 and at least £7,981 was not paid to HM customs and excise.

He also failed to file tax returns for February 1998 to December 29 1999.

But in the same period he paid nearly £1.1million to his trade creditors, nearly £190,000 of which was paid to a company of which he was a director.

He also failed to comply with statutory obligations to file appropriate tax returns with the Inland Revenue and failed to maintain, preserve and deliver adequate records to enable the liquidator to satisfactorily account for the destination or purpose of £59,464 cash withdrawn from T & C Home Improvements bank account.
