A PACKED calendar of events has been designed to help family heroes during Carers' Awareness Week.
Doors to council day centres have been thrown open to host activities, organised by the Wigan and Leigh Carers' Group, for the 46,000 residents who care for relatives and friends who are frail, disabled or chronically ill.
They include a coffee morning at The Orchards at 2pm on Monday, June 10, and a craft and aromatherapy workshop at the same venue on the 11th from 11am to 1pm.
Also on the 11th there will be a coffee morning at Amberswood, Hindley (10am to noon ) and a carers' event at the Broadmead Training Centre, Lowton (10.30am to 11.30am).
Information stands will be available at Leigh Asda on Friday, June 7 (10am to 6pm), and at Boots, Leigh, on June 10 between 1am and 3pm.
Highlight of the week will be an invitation only day to be opened by the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Geoff and Mrs Betty Roberts on June 12 at 10am at Lowton Civic Hall.
Leading commentator Professor Peter Beresford of Brunel University will be guest speaker and Cllr Lynne Liptrot, chair of the Ashton, Wigan and Leigh Primary Care Trust, will talk about its role and benefit to carers.
