SUPPORTERS of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph Magic Eye Cancer Scanner Appeal will be able to get into the swing of fundraising with a golf competition this summer.
The competition, the final of which will be held at Pleasington Golf Club in September, will be a chance for sportsmen and women to give their support to the appeal.
The appeal aims to raise £200,000 for a special scanner which can diagnose cancers of the stomach and oesophagus far more accurately and gives a clear picture of what stage they have reached so medical teams can operate and treat with pinpoint precision.
The scanner will be for the benefit of the whole of the East Lancashire area and it could help at least 600 patients a year.
The contest is the brainchild of Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley NHS Trust chairman Ian Woolley.
He said: "Sportsmen and women throughout East Lancashire will be playing a major part to raise money for the appeal. The golf competition will be fun for golfers throughout East Lancashire to show their support."
There will be a ladies' section and a men's section and organisers hope 22 clubs will be taking part.
There will be awards certificates for competitors and gold and silver medals for winners and runners-up. Each club taking part will also receive award certificates, with bronze, silver and gold awards going to those who raise £100, £250 and £1,000.
There will also be grand final prizes, among them an elegant silver claret jug trophy.
