THE FORMER Motherwell manager Billy Davies has been appointed the new first team coach at Deepdale.

Davies takes over the role from fellow Scot Jimmy Lumsden, whom boss Craig Brown allowed to join former North End manager David Moyes at Everton a fortnight ago.

Davies won three Scottish Premier League manager of the month awards while at Fir Park.

He will work under Brown and alongside assistant manager Kelham O'Hanlon who will continue in his role as Brown's number two. Davies said: "I am delighted to be here.

"I've spoken to a lot of people and from what I've been told this is a great place to be.

"The tradition of Preston North End speaks for itself and I am looking forward to working with Craig.

"Its great to be a coach again. I love working with the players out on the training pitch.

"And I can't wait for pre-season to start in July and get on with the job."
