PALESTINIAN gunmen shot their way into the Church of the Nativity as a planned place of refuge should they be overrun by the Israelis. Several monks and nuns were held as hostages with the terrorists guns being kept on them at all times, whilst others opened fire repeatedly from inside the shrine.

The senior monk said that they "stole anything that looked like gold, broke windows whilst looking for food, damaged a priceless mosaic, defecated and left a stench of rotting material" yet nothing has been heard from any of the Christian leaders regarding to this blatant desecration.

Why has the Christian community, the Pope, senior Prelates in the Vatican, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York etc. not led an outraged protest at this indecent act? Could it be that they are afraid of the Muslim response, and that the Muslims would take it as another crusade. God help the Christians if they had desecrated even the smallest and least important of mosques. This lack of action by the Christian hierarchy must forever be a mark of shame.

It was only because the Israelis had respect for this shrine that they did not enter and subdue the gunmen. In retrospect I am sure that the senior monk would have preferred this action when compared to the desecration committed by the Muslim terrorists.
